Preparing Mars 2030 for launch

For the past 3 years, as an important area of Fusion Media Group’s investment in emerging media platforms, FMG Labs has been focusing on virtual and augmented reality. Next week, we’ll be releasing the centerpiece of our efforts thus far, with our virtual reality simulation, MARS 2030.

In MARS 2030, which  has been developed in collaboration directly with NASA, players take on the role of astronauts exploring over 40 sq. km of real Mars landscape (a “breathtaking slice of real Martian landscape the size of ‘Skyim’”). Our NASA partnership has allowed for the highest level of scientific accuracy, with every design in the experience coming from NASA prototypes proposed for their upcoming missions to the Red Planet, planned for less than 20 years from now.

In our experience (with 2+ hours of total playing time), players are encouraged to explore the vast terrain, make discoveries and study them back at the habitat simulation, and uncover the history of Mars along the way.

Needless to say... we’re incredibly honored to have NASA as a partner in this project and we are excited by the possibility of building MARS 2030 into a unique VR franchise.

On Tuesday, July 11, MARS 2030 will be released on Steam, Viveport, and the Oculus store, and compatible with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift hardware. MARS 2030 will also be playable as a non-VR experience for PC. Later this summer, we will be releasing on the PlayStation store for PlayStation VR and Playstation 4 (non-VR).

We’ll post updates, videos, interviews and more right here as we embark on the next step in our journey to Mars.
